in a sweet voice, come here
and feel the sun on your skin
listen to the bird song.
Dance among the moss in
the lawn, and watch the
fir cones fall onto your truck
with a resounding plunk, know
that you will be very busy
cleaning up the lawn….again.
“Did you forget to lime?”
“Too bad” she coo’s….
”it’s going to rain, and the
grass will start to grow soon and you will be lamenting not having seeded when you could.” Don’t worry she says,
you will too busy counting new green leaves to feel bad about it.
Her laughter echoes through the neighbourhood, among the garden tools. rakes, and piles of pruned branches.
Spring whispers her promise to us not caring what tomorrow brings. She knows that fickle as she is, it’s her that is
in charge, not us.
No matter if we complain of snow just days before her arrival, or turn our faces towards the ever increasing heat
of the sun, she is in control.
And so we dance to her tune, turn our ears toward the bird song, listen for the sound of buds swelling, sap rising,
and ground thawing, knowing that spring will keep her promises.
Come soon spring.

The first buds bursting from the tress is always a fun sign that Spring is on the way.

ReplyDeleteOkay! I'm here! Me, Spring! I've arrived! Here I am! Yo!
ReplyDeleteSweet Jen... and dare I believe that is a robin in the tree! Wonderful! It's the teasing that makes the waiting harder! Cheers~
ReplyDeleteI just called back home and they are predicted to receive 13 more inches of the white stuff on Monday. I doubt that spring will be in Wisconsin on April 7th, when we are getting back. Love today's blog.
ReplyDeleteOh- I am so anxious to be able to dance to her tune! We have 3" of new snow this morning-UGH- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet, Jen! I totally have spring fever!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Just beautiful - both the photos and the post!

I hear you on spring. Wish it would come soon instead of teasing us with buds, all the signs of spring coming. Wondering when it will be warmer again, to wear a light jacket, ...great images you presented us today?
ReplyDeleteLooking out our windows ya wouldn't think so today ! But I am hopeful spring will be here soon even though the signs have all arrived ! Lovely post and photos you finally have your Robins that's awesome ! Have a good day !
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous blue sky. Nice to see as it is very overcast here. Thanks for the blog visit too!
ReplyDeleteIncredible Blue Sky Jen! It looks like the loveliest of loveliest of early spring days! Here's hoping for many more ~ Cheers, Jenni
ReplyDeleteAnd she teases on and on and we fall for her tease only to be thrown back into winter, and then we wait for her to show herself again. I know she is coming I felt her yesterday.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Laura
I love it!! Beautiful post, words and photos of a robin. Soon....
ReplyDeleteTrying to be positive as it snowed this morning..sun is out but it is cold....brrr! My garden must need a lot of rest.
ReplyDeleteWell said! Yesterday I started cutting back the perennials I allowed to stay up over the winter. The sky is grey and it is chill today, but I know it is only a matter of days before the weather turns for good.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely blues - definitely whispering about spring!
ReplyDeleteOh, that blue is my very favorite shade. No buds here yet, though today I noticed that my 'hens and chicks' are poking through the soil. They are just in time for the 10-18 inches of snow predicted for tomorrow....I think I will be relying on your sunny thoughts of spring for some days still to come.
ReplyDeleteIs that my first robin . . . it is, I think, thank you . . .
