I had forgotten about that drawback of living away from a city center until reading your post. Not good for a flower lover like yourself, is it? I remember how wonderful it was to move for a remote mountain locale to the San Francisco Bay Area and see so many flowers. I feel your pain. Sounds like your dream home needs to have a lovely greenhouse on the property. *hint* *hint* ;-)

I have no idea what the cost is for cut flowers here. I can only imagine it is steep...although not as cold here, we would be paying for the cost to transport from somewhere...now of course I want some tulips...

It's a shame they are so expensive. Fresh cut flowers are rather expensive here, as well - and we're only 80 miles from Manhattan! I look forward to our once a month visits to Trader Joe's because they have the cheapest and prettiest flowers around.

Cut flowers are a rare indulgence around here that's why I love the color of my little African violets that seem to bloom through the winter. Sometimes the super market will have cut flowers on sale and then I cave in. Your photos put me in the mood for spring to hurry up.

I never see cut tulips here..only grown in a pot ones..must be too expensive here too. Flowers just make me get all watery eyed and sneeze anyway..mine are best left outside or in photographs:)

Keep on looking for the cut tulip source that is reasonably priced; do you have Trader Joe or Whole Foods up there? They have reasonable flower prices.

I remember those buckets too Jen and the big greenhouses out in the valley. The upside is you can force your own bulbs indoors. Amaryllis, paperwhites, hyacinths and they last year to year.

Yikes. That's expensive, for sure. I grow a lot of flowering plants in the house to help get me through winter, so right now the office is full of orchids, hibiscus, and one fantastically fragrant stephanotis. They all help.

I grew up on the west coast and miss my daffs and holly a lot. You can grow flowers in your climate, more temperate than mine, but you have to wait a lot longer for them.

I've been itching to buy some cheap potted spring bulbs, especially with our warm winter so far. But the hard frost overnight has reminded me whey I've been putting off buying any; knowing they could be damaged by any further hard frosts.

Let's hope you manage to find somewhere that will sell the flowers cheaper :D
